Our solicitor, Mr Wissam Philopos, represented a middle-aged woman at Mt Druitt Local Court in mid-March 2023 in relation to a serious matter in which our client risked serving a custodial sentence for an extended period of time.
This case involved our client being involved with a traumatic experience that was the death of a long time friend. Our client was charged with Negligent Driving (Occasioning Death) and Grievous Bodily Harm by negligent act. The tragic death of a long term friend following an incident involving our client while driving the victim to work.
Our client, being a middle-aged woman faced a possibly lengthy prison sentence if convicted and after the death of her long-term friend, our solicitor, was not going to let that happen. Mr Wissam Philopos fought off attention from media outlets that were covering the matter, in order to keep the proceedings as private as possible for our client.
Our representation resulted in the fabulous result of a non-custodial sentence. Our client received a Community Corrections Order with only the standard conditions for a period of 18 Months and was disqualified from driving for 12 months. This was seen as a fantastic result as our client was expected to receive a custodial sentence.
This fantastic result was achieved through thorough preparation of the matter as well as Mr Philopos’ hard work and determination to keep our client out of prison. Through strong subjective evidence, Mr Philopos specifically focused on the circumstances of our client and their great prospect of rehabilitation.
This case illustrates the importance of quality representation and the value of a solicitor like Mr Philopos who cares for his client’s circumstances and will work hard to ensure their case is prepared and presented in a way that ensures the Court gives full effect to every factor in a client’s favour.
